The 2nd Annual SFRAS User Group Meeting and Training Session took place on January 12 to 14th, 2010 at the Sheraton Hotel in Birmingham, AL. SWRA User Meeting The user group meeting provided an opportunity for SWRA users from across the south to review and discuss how the SWRA has been used by the different project participants. Additionally, it allowed users to share and learn different techniques, methods, and uses of the SFRAS software and SWRA data, including a discussion of future enhancements and development. This year's User Meeting focused on highlighting case studies where users have successfully applied the SWRA products over the past year. Of particular note, were presentations by the Georgia Forestry Commission and the Alabama Forestry Commission on their use of the SWRA products to kickstart the development of Community Wildfire Protection Plans (CWPPs) in their respective states. Pretty impressive. Other presentations also focused on the utility of the SWRA products for CWPP development, including a project for Highlands County, FL, and on-going efforts by the Texas Forest Service to integrate the SWRA into county based CWPP efforts. In addition, Florida DOF reviewed their project to enhance the state's Hazard Mitigation Plan by using updated SWRA data to conduct a vulnerability assessment for each county. This project reflects the benefit of applying the SWRA for not only fire protection planning efforts, but also for supporting FEMA driven Hazard Mitigation Planning requirements. The list of presentations are shown below. Click on the presentation topic to download the zipped PDF.
Training Sessions The one day User Group Meeting was supplemented by a SFRAS Training Course on January 13-14th. This two day session included a half day course on Strategic Planning Using SWRA, as well as the standard one and half day Using SFRAS training course. This session provided a step-by-step overview of how to use the SFRAS software and leverage the power of the SWRA Published Results. Don Carlton (Fire Program Solutions) lead the Strategic Planning session. Training course materials will be posted shortly on this page. |
